Te Kupu o te Wiki: Tāwhirimātea

Ever since Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Maori Language week), we have been learning a new kupu (word) each week. Some weeks, it is easy to fit the word into a conversation. When we had engari (but) it was easy: Meg is good at tennis, engari Sophie is better!

This week's kupu is Tāwhirimātea - god of wind and storms. We think this will be a bit harder to fit into conversation! Here is a short video about Tāwhirimātea:

Tech

Today at tech we are making funny cars. We get to chose what we want our cars to look like.
We are given a piece of wood and Mr Hardwood teaches us how to cut the windows out and gives us a plan to complete.

Elections 2014 - Kids Voting

This year, our teacher signed us up for Kids Voting as part of the 2014 Elections. We've learned a little bit about the way our government is chosen, and what they do for us. The best part is, we got to have our say by filling in our Kids Voting ballot forms! We even did the count of voting papers from the Moa team in the same way that the officials will do the count on Election night. It will be interesting to see if our votes match what happens across New Zealand on Election Day.

Time After Time Field Day

What an amazing day we had today! Lots of information to take in, and some fabulous displays to see!

Tech - Wood Tech

Today at tech we are making boxes. This is probably the hardest thing we have made at wood
Tech.

It's really fun and we have learnt a lot so some people will be taking there's home today. If not
They will probably be finished next Wednesday.

Tech - Wood Tech

Today most of us are going to come home with our hearts that we made.
There is actually a lot harder to do than it looks. Our next protect is to make whistles with
a chisel which we're all looking forward to.

Assembly

Today at LC10's assembly Mrs. Jackson gave her Maori speech and it was very good.
After the national anthem the piano students gave a fantastic performance that everyone enjoyed.
The head students gave out some certificates to some teachers and students that have put a lot of time and effort to the school.

Some new kids got the welcome to West Melton School new entrants certificate.
There are heaps more GOLD certificate winners this week. Well done West Melton school!!

There is going to be a sausage Sizzle at long play today so if you feel like a sausage then come down. They are only $2 each.

If you got a KC coupon in the last week then you have a chance to get pizza with the Principal.
Congratulations to the people who were lucky enough to get chosen.

Heaps of people made fantastic cupcakes for cupcake day so it was very hard to choose the best but there were a few that stood out so congratulations to them.

Last weeks hockey and soccer teams did a great job and got in to the Canterbury tournaments.

Thanks LC10 for the great assembly.
