Tech

Today at tech we made mouse traps and apple crumble. They tasted really good. We first made the apple crumble. It's a really nice looking pie even though there is a lot of suger included.

The mouse traps tasted great as well. It's like a ham and cheese toastie so it tasted really good.

Everyone is looking forward to the next lesson.

The Colourful Lemon

As part of our unit on identity, Ms. C. showed us this picture:

Imagine that someone posted this photo online. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if a photo like this is real or not, especially when you consider how  cool  it would be if we could cut open a lemon and see a rainbow of colors inside! Perhaps it was done with food colouring, or special dyes injected into the lemon before it was cut?? What do you think...

Is the Colourful Lemon picture real?

Te Kupu o te Wiki: Tāwhirimātea

Ever since Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Maori Language week), we have been learning a new kupu (word) each week. Some weeks, it is easy to fit the word into a conversation. When we had engari (but) it was easy: Meg is good at tennis, engari Sophie is better!

This week's kupu is Tāwhirimātea - god of wind and storms. We think this will be a bit harder to fit into conversation! Here is a short video about Tāwhirimātea:

Tech

Today at tech we are making funny cars. We get to chose what we want our cars to look like.
We are given a piece of wood and Mr Hardwood teaches us how to cut the windows out and gives us a plan to complete.

Elections 2014 - Kids Voting

This year, our teacher signed us up for Kids Voting as part of the 2014 Elections. We've learned a little bit about the way our government is chosen, and what they do for us. The best part is, we got to have our say by filling in our Kids Voting ballot forms! We even did the count of voting papers from the Moa team in the same way that the officials will do the count on Election night. It will be interesting to see if our votes match what happens across New Zealand on Election Day.

Time After Time Field Day

What an amazing day we had today! Lots of information to take in, and some fabulous displays to see!

Today at tech we are making boxes. This is probably the hardest thing we have made at wood
Tech.

It's really fun and we have learnt a lot so some people will be taking there's home today. If not
They will probably be finished next Wednesday.

Tech - Wood Tech

Today most of us are going to come home with our hearts that we made.
There is actually a lot harder to do than it looks. Our next protect is to make whistles with
a chisel which we're all looking forward to.

Assembly

Today at LC10's assembly Mrs. Jackson gave her Maori speech and it was very good.
After the national anthem the piano students gave a fantastic performance that everyone enjoyed.
The head students gave out some certificates to some teachers and students that have put a lot of time and effort to the school.

Some new kids got the welcome to West Melton School new entrants certificate.
There are heaps more GOLD certificate winners this week. Well done West Melton school!!

There is going to be a sausage Sizzle at long play today so if you feel like a sausage then come down. They are only $2 each.

If you got a KC coupon in the last week then you have a chance to get pizza with the Principal.
Congratulations to the people who were lucky enough to get chosen.

Heaps of people made fantastic cupcakes for cupcake day so it was very hard to choose the best but there were a few that stood out so congratulations to them.

Last weeks hockey and soccer teams did a great job and got in to the Canterbury tournaments.

Thanks LC10 for the great assembly.

Tech - Soft Materials

Last week we finished our soft toys. We are now making pencil cases. They are a little bit easier than the soft toys so they will only take two days to get finished. Today we are also packing up since  it is the last week of term.

We will be allowed to have free time after we have gotten our pencil cases and toys marked off, if they haven't already. We are going to have a big pack up because it is the last sesion of the term and everything needs to be clean.

Everyone enjoyed tech this term and everyone is looking forward to it next term.

Hockey and Soccer Practice Begins

It's a new Term and a new beginning for Winter sports. This part of the Term we are playing Hockey and Soccer so we all have a vote on what we want to do, most of us voted for soccer and only a few  of us voted, for hockey so we all had to do the hockey try outs.

Some people didn't want to do hockey, After the try outs they thought they would like it more than soccer after all.
Some people tried out for soccer and got into the hockey team, because there might be to many people in the soccer team or there actually better at hockey than they thought.

So stay up to date with the blog to see what sport your child got into.

The Beginning of a New Term

Wow the years going so fast we're already in Term 2. Everybody's tired but happy to see there friends and some people are even sad because they have to come back to school. But most people are happy so we're hoping it's going to be a good day and everybody gets back into the normal routine.

2014 camp

The yr 7,8 camp has just finished and everybody is tired. Our camp was at wainui, some of the activities we did we're raft building, coasteering, snorkelling, kayaking and more.
We played games such as animal survival all about the way of life, sardines a night game including the teacher, and kings and queens where we had challenge the king or queen and if you have the highest card you win the game.

We had a chef named Marg. She is a great cook and did a great job every night. We all had chore
Groups witch had to do the dishes and other cleaning on the nights.

We had a common room where me we're allowd to go on the I pads and play quiet games it was
Also our meeting area where we get told our next activity. Most of our activitys were water based
Like kiaking and snorkelling but we did other activitys like search and rescue were good as we'll
Because we didn't need to get in and out of our togs or wetsuit.

My favourite activity was kiaking because you get your own kiak and the boats go fast if you want
them to and the instructors thought of really good games to play.

We also had a camp fire Whitch was really fun, we sang songs that everybody enjoyed and did really
Fun games.

On the first day we did a hike to get to camp. It takes three to four hours so but we did it in two.
In was still a hard walk most of it was up hill but from the half way point it was easyer.

They also had grass skies with for me was the best part of the camp. They ar like big roller skates
Without a built in shoe. There was a small but steep hill witch we were allowed to use. Some people
Sat on them first and then stood up afterwards I did the same but the second time I fell off and rolled down the hill. i crept on trying but never manged to do it I saw some people using crates on the grass
Skis. I tried doing it with one ski and I got to the bottom really fast.
